Athenaeum 2021 Full Exhibit

2021 and the world continues to be closed. It is a halting start and stop as things open then shut seemingly on the same day. Once again the Barony of Madrone in the SCA is hosting their Arts and Science exhibit virtually to allow artisans to show what they have been creating and to inspire each other.

As the walls are ever closer my thoughts wander further and further away dreaming of far off places filled with the scents of smoke and spices and the tranquility which I remember from wandering the paths of Nara and the bamboo forests during my time in Japan.

For this year’s exhibit I once again chose a theme, this time some of the early binding and pottery found in China and Japan. For the bookbinding I choose to look at accordion, butterfly, and stab binding. For the pottery I researched and tried my hand at tri-color pottery, and raku firing (with some Obvara thrown in for fun).
